Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant Assistant to support our payroll and HR operations. This role involves assisting with employee compensation, benefits, and payroll processes for various departments or projects. You will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal and state laws, and assist in maintaining employee records and benefits administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process weekly or biweekly payroll, including garnishments, benefits, and taxes, ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws.
- Manage the accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, transfers, promotions, and temporary workers.
- Prepare and audit payroll reports such as W-4s, balance sheets, and YTD earnings.
- Ensure payroll systems are updated to reflect employee details (wages, benefits, sick/vacation time, etc.), for both union and non-union employees.
- Prepare and manage various management reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax and benefits deductions).
- Oversee payroll, insurance, and tax audits as needed.
- Handle weekly payroll tax payments and prepare quarterly and annual tax filings.
- Reconcile bank statements.
- Administer and evaluate employee benefits programs, including health, dental, pension, and insurance plans.
- Ensure legal compliance by staying updated on federal and state HR regulations and maintaining accurate employee records.
- Develop and update HR policies and procedures.
- Counsel and assist in resolving employee relations issues, conduct performance appraisals, and support employee discipline when needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Experience in payroll processing and HR support.
- Knowledge of federal and state wage and hour laws.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
